The 3rd SXIP Exchange with Griffith University
The Yokohama-SXIP program is an international exchange program that allows students to explore issues in sustainability transformation in collaboration with partners in India and Australia. September 2024 was the third visit by YNU students to the Gold Coast campus of Griffith University. In March 2024, two students from the Faculty of Economics went to Griffith University and presented on ‘Prospects for green hydrogen trade between Japan and Australia’ (details here ). The students visiting in September updated the research on this topic and presented it to students and faculty on the Gold Coast campus.
Profesor Alexander McAulay once again led the cohort, and in collaboration with Dr. Alexandr Akimov of Griffith University, carried out a full menu of educational activities. As well as presenting their research, the YNU students participated in various classes, including ‘Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship,’ ‘Engaging Australia and the Asia-Pacific,’ and ‘Business Ethics and Corporate Governance.’ Discussions also took place with the Griffith students who had visited YNU in late August for a SXIP Symposium on the Tokiwadai campus that featured delegates from participating universities in India and Australia.
In addition to the main academic events, students took part in various social and cultural activities with a focus on sustainability. For example, a morning was spent with Currumbin Creek Care Group helping with their tree-planting initiatives.
As in March, students stayed with homestay hosts, which gave them the opportunity to enjoy family life Down Under.
Both students had recently returned from one-year study abroad stints, so the SXIP program allowed them to build on the language skills and academic knowledge they had already gained. SXIP enhances the participants’ understanding of the sustainability challenges faced by global society. In 2025, SXIP will enter its fourth year and YNU will once again offer the opportunity to visit Griffith University to students in Economics and Business.
