Application Guidelines for Emergency Support Scholarship

Note: There may be cases in which the submission of additional materials to confirm the need for support is required.
(Where to Make Inquiries)
- Under the social circumstances related to the prevention of the spread of novel coronavirus infections, YNU will provide the following emergency support scholarship for its students, whose income, including part-time earning, has decreased. This scholarship is intended to provide financial support for the students to set up the learning environment for distance learning (taking online classes).
(Eligibility)
- Students enrolling in YNU (College/ Graduate Schools) as a regular student are eligible. (Research students (kenkyusei) and Accredited auditors (kamokuto rishusei) are not eligible.)
- 1) Those who applied for Tuition Waivers and Deferment are also eligible.
- 2) In principle, the following students are NOT eligible.
- - Students receiving a scholarship of 80,000 yen or more per month. This include students who are financially supported by Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT), foreign governments or other institutions such as JICA or World Bank.
- - Fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
(Amount of Scholarship)
- Undergraduate students / Master students / Doctoral students: 50,000 yen (one-time only in FY2020)
(Number of Students Supported)
- Up to 600 undergraduate, master and doctoral students
(Decision on Scholarship Recipients)
- The decision on the scholarship recipients will be made by the President based on the contents of the application.
- Screening Procedures: Applicants will be screened by the submitted application.
- Notice of Screening Results:Applicants will be notified of their results by email in the end of May 2020 (tentative). The scholarship is scheduled to be paid by bank transfer in early June 2020.
(Preservation of Documentary Evidence)
- Scholarship recipients must keep following documents until March 2021, and submit a copy at the request of YNU.
- (1) Purchase Receipts (bought after April 2020) for personal computers or devices necessary for internet connection such as Wi-Fi routers.
- (2) Documents showing that the income of the applicants’ family and/or applicant’s part-time job has decreased in the last 6 months (such as income statements and savings passbooks) and rent receipts until December 2020, etc. (unrelated parts should be blacked out.)
(Refund of Scholarship)
- Scholarship recipients will be required to refund the full amount of the scholarship in the following cases:
- (1)It becomes clear that they have made a false declaration.
- (2)They fail to submit a copy of documentary evidence in response to a request from YNU.
- (3)They get disciplinary action or involved in illegal action.
- (4)Other than above: The need for emergency support was not recognized.

- 2) If applicants can not submit the application online, they can submit by registered mail or “Letter pack Light” (370 yen) as below.

- b. A copy of bank cash card or other applicable document to confirm bank account information such as account number, branch code and account holder’s name.
