YNU E-SSUP Financial Assistance for Accommodation Fee associated with Self-Quarantine for International Students (AY2021)
From November 8, 2021, the Japanese government eases the preventative measures against the tide of COVID-19, the new entry of foreign nationals comes to be possible. YNU will provide the financial assistance for the accommodation fee associated with self-quarantine for its international students as follows. Those who apply for this financial assistance need to prepare all required documents and submit them through SPIRAL (online application system). URL to access SPIRAL will be introduced after the entry to Japan begins.
Objective
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, international students are required to stay at an accommodation, such as hotels (*university dormitories and private homes are not allowed) and self-quarantine for the number of days specified from the day of arrival in Japan. Since all expenses for the self-quarantine period should be self-borne, YNU will provide the following financial assistance for its international students to reduce their financial burden to start their student life in Japan.Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy all the following conditions from 1) to 3):1) Regular undergraduate and graduate students, Research students (kenkyusei) , Exchange Students (JOY Program, Japanese Language and Japanese Culture Program etc.)enrolling in or after April 1, 2020.
2) Those who entered Japan with a newly issued visa.
3) Those who stayed at accommodations such as hotels for the 14-day quarantine (could be 10 days if conditions are fulfilled).
In principle, the following students are NOT eligible.
- Students who are financially supported for the quarantine by the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT), foreign governments or other institutions such as JICA or World Bank.
- Fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
- Accredited auditors (kamokuto rishusei) and auditors (chokosei)

- Copies of receipts for accommodation expenses
- Copies of bankbook (the page with your account information)
- Copies (both sides) of residence card

Payment
The financial assistance is to be paid by bank transfer from the month following the month in which all required documents have been submitted.Preservation of Documentary Evidence
Recipients are required to keep the documents which can prove the need of financial assistance, such as the receipts for accommodation expenses, until the end of March 2022, and submit them at the request of YNU.Refund of Financial Assistance
Recipients will be required to refund the full amount of the financial assistance in the following cases:(1)It becomes clear that they have violated the contents of the written pledge.
(2)It becomes clear that they have made a false declaration.
(3)They fail to submit a copy of documentary evidence in response to a request from YNU.
(4)They get disciplinary action or involved in illegal action.
(5)Other than above: The need for emergency support is not recognized.
