Yokohama National University's Response to International Applicants Who Cannot Travel to Japan(Updated on January 12, 2022)
1.Important Notes
Yokohama National University will implement alternative measures for international applicants who are unable to travel to Japan due to entry restrictions. We will announce the measures of each college and graduate school as soon as they are decided, by posting them in 2. and 3. below.Applicants who are living or residing in Japan as of the date of the entrance examination cannot take the examination under the alternative measures described in 2. and 3. below, except in the case that all applicants taking the relevant examination are changed to take the examination online, etc.)
Please note that we may take such measures as confirming the date of the applicant’s arrival in Japan with the original passport. If any false application or fraud is found, the admission will be canceled even after enrollment.
2.Undergraduate Admissions
College of Economics | - For applicants who are unable to travel to Japan, the Individual Achievement Test (Interview) will be conducted online. - The application period will be extended until December 17 following the announcement of the alternative measures. - Application guidelines (in Japanese) are available at /exam/faculty/essential/pdf/2022_zai_YGEP_tonichi.pdf |
College of Business Administration | The College of Business Administration will change the selection method to allow applicants who cannot travel to Japan to take the entrance examination. Please refer to the website below (in Japanese) for the details of the changes in the selection method, which will be announced in the application guidelines around January 5, 2022. Regarding the above-mentioned announcement made on December 14 (Tuesday) 2021, the following changes will be implemented. [Changes to the application documents] Applicants who are unable to enter Japan will be required to submit a certificate of residence at the time of application. [Changes in the Selection Method] Second stage screening An interview with faculty members will be conducted. In addition, the combined scores of EJU (mathematics) and the external English proficiency test will be used instead of an essay examination. The screening will be based on the combination of these tests, the statement of purpose, and the academic transcript. For the interview, applicants who have already entered Japan will be interviewed at the university; for those who cannot enter Japan, the interview will be conducted online. College of Engineering Science | The College will offer alternative measures for applicants who are unable to take the entrance examination of YGEP-N1 (Standard Admission) at YNU on February 25 (Fri) and 26 (Sat), 2022. College of Urban Sciences | Since the application period has already ended, applicants will be notified separately when the admission ticket is sent to them. |

Doctoral Program: Foreign language test will be substituted by the submission of a transcript of TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS (see the application guidelines for the required scores). YNU Interfaculty Graduate School of Innovative and Practical Studies | The special admission for Japanese government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship recipients, etc. is conducted mainly based on document screening. There are no other entrance exams currently open for application. |
